The album ‘Lux’ by Spain’s Rosalía tops the list of the best albums of 2025 by Variety magazine, which on Thursday released its opinion on the projects that were released this year and which also includes among the best Puerto Rican Bad Bunny and Colombian Karol G.
“It’s always hard to reach a consensus, but for the first time ever, all four members of Variety’s music team, included Rosalia’s ‘Lux’ on our list, a good sign that it will have a chance to compete in the 2027 Grammy Awards (since it missed the eligibility deadline for the next ones),” the magazine notes.
The article, in which each of the four members of the committee give their opinion on what they consider to be the best 10 albums of the year, highlights the performer’s vision for this project as well as her impeccable interpretation of the 11 songs that comprise it, in several languages.
“‘Lux is like an intellectually demanding novel or a film replete with symbolism and hidden meanings: as Rosalía unfolds her impeccable, soulful voice, in 11 different languages and almost always accompanied by a full orchestra, it’s virtually impossible not to be awed by the magnitude and execution of her vision and ambition,” said Jem Aswad, executive music editor of Variety.
Another committee member, Steven Harowitz, noted that Rosalía’s album is a pop opera “in the purest sense, an album brimming with ideas so rich and complex that they invite repeated listening”.
The magazine further notes that the album is infused with references to the divine like no other seemingly secular pop superstar album in recent memory.
Rosalía will perform an extensive concert tour in 2026 to promote her project, which will arrive at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 16 and 17 and whose tickets have already begun to be sold today, many of them sold out.
Rosalia triumphs and Bad Bunny and Karol G, also stand out

Of the “Bad Rabbit’s” latest album, Varierty highlights that ‘Debí tirar más fotos’ was “simply super”, recalling that it was released in the early days of 2025 to quickly become “one of the Puerto Rican superstar’s most important works”.
“Nearly a year later, the album’s impact continues to resonate with its complex and multifaceted narrative, which serves as a powerful reminder of an island still forging its identity after centuries of Spanish rule and, later, U.S. colonial influence,” Variety notes.
Of Karol G’s ‘Tropicoqueta’, the magazine highlights that it is one of the best examples of genre fusion this year, positioning the artist as a pop star “who is not afraid to take risks to the max, transforming centuries of Latin rhythms and melodies into a coherent body of work with global resonance”.
According to the magazine, three of the four members of the music committee mentioned England’s Lily Allen as one of this year’s main protagonists, while Lady Gaga and Karol G received two of the team’s four mentions, reported Agencia EFE.
