San Miguel is experienced from above. The golden rule here is: if you’re going to have a drink, make sure it’s on a terrace.
Sunset: Around 6:00 PM, everyone goes up to the rooftops (like the one at the Rosewood or Quince hotel ). The view of the orange-tinted city with the illuminated parish in the background is possibly the best urban view in the entire country. Order a glass of local white wine or a signature mezcal.

The experience: Here you don’t stay in generic buildings. You stay in restored 18th century mansions with lavender-filled courtyards, stone fountains and Egyptian thread linens. The service is impeccable and personalized.
Style and survival tips
No heels: This is serious. The streets are cobblestone and very uneven. If you wear stilettos, you will sprain your ankle in 5 minutes. Wear chic tennis shoes, boots or platform sandals.
How to get there: The easiest way is to fly to the León/Bajío (BJX) or Querétaro (QRO) airport and take a one-hour shuttle.
Budget: San Miguel is not cheap. Be prepared for prices similar to tourist areas in the US, but the quality is totally worth it.
