Shakira and Burna Boy to sing ‘Dai Dai’ at World Cup opening ceremony

Colombian Shakira and Nigerian Burna Boy will present ‘Dai Dai’, the official song of the 2026 World Cup, at the opening ceremony to be held on June 11 at the Azteca stadium in Mexico City, FIFA said Thursday.

Shakira and Burna Boy will headline the show, which will also feature stars such as Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná and Tyla, groups and performers who will bring the official album of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to life.

The entity emphasized that the promotion of this song will be a great boost to its programs in support of children around the world.

“Dai Dai is featured as the official song of the World Cup, which also supports the FIFA and Global Citizen Fund for Education, an initiative that aims to raise $100,000,000 by the end of the tournament, which will provide girls and boys around the world with access to soccer and quality education,” FIFA said in the statement.

The opening ceremony will begin one and a half hours before the match between Mexico and South Africa.

Mexico will hold the first of the three opening ceremonies scheduled for this edition of the World Cup, in which the country shares the venue with Canada and the United States, which will also feature world-class artists.

This is the fourth time that Shakira has participated with songs in the World Cup.

In Germany 2006 he performed a version of ‘Hips Don’t Lie – Bamboo’; in South Africa 2010 he made the world dance with his iconic ‘Waka Waka’ and for Brazil 2014 he performed ‘La La La’ at the closing ceremony at the Maracana stadium.

For the 2026 World Cup, in addition to participating in the opening ceremony, he will also take part in the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, reported Agencia EFE.
