Shakira was nominated this Wednesday for the first time to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with other artists such as Mariah Carey, Iron Maiden, Oasis and New Edition.
The 17 nominees also include The Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Phil Collins, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, Billy Idol, INXS, Joy Division/New Order, P!NK, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.
Shakira, the only latina nominated

Shakira is the only Latin artist among the nominees for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
One year after the Mexican band Maná became the first Spanish-singing group to be nominated for the Hall in nearly a decade, it was the first time in nearly a decade that the band had been nominated for the Hall.
In the end, the group was not included.
To be eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 25 years must have passed since the release of their first recording.
Shakira debuted with her production ‘Magia’, released in 1991.
Although her international success came a few years later with ‘Pies descalzos’ (1995).
Although some hopefuls have been among the unsuccessful contenders before, ten of them, including Shakira, P!NK and Phil Collins, are in the running for the first time.
“This diverse list of talented nominees recognizes the ever-evolving faces and sounds of rock & roll and its continuing impact on youth culture,” said John Sykes, president of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.
The Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley and Phil Collins are also among the nominees

Rock Salon begins voting

This pre-selection opens a voting process, the result of which will be announced in April, in which the artists to be included in the Salon will be finally chosen.
They can be included in three categories: Musical Influence, Musical Excellence and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award.
“Induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is the ultimate musical honor and we are looking forward to celebrating the 2026 promotion this fall,” Sykes added.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was founded in 1983 and is based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Year after year, it seeks to recognize industry figures who have had an important impact.
Being part of this Hall, which includes artists such as The Beatles, Madonna and Michael Jackson, is considered one of the greatest honors in the music industry.
