In 2025, Shakira commemorates with Spotify the anniversaries of two of the most transcendental productions of her career: Pies Descalzos and Fijación Oral, Volumes 1 and 2. These works not only marked different stages in the artistic evolution of the Colombian singer-songwriter, but also consolidated her impact on Latin and global music.

Thirty years ago, in 1995, Shakira released Pies Descalzos, the album that positioned her as one of the most promising voices in Latin America. After two previous productions that did not achieve great notoriety, this album represented a turning point in her career. Thanks to songs like “Estoy aquí”, “¿Dónde estás corazón?” and the endearing “Antología”, the artist managed to connect with millions of listeners who found in her style a mix of authenticity, poetry and alternative pop sound.

The album, produced with Luis Fernando Ochoa, fused elements of rock, pop and ballad, with profound lyrics that portrayed love, introspection and the desire for freedom. Pies Descalzos sold over five million copies worldwide and became a cornerstone for Latin music in the 1990s. It was also the starting point of an international career that would continue to expand over the following decades.

A decade later, Shakira surprised again with an ambitious proposal: the albums Oral Fixation, Vol. 1 (in Spanish) and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (in English), released in 2005 and 2006, respectively. These productions reflected her artistic maturity and her ability to conquer new audiences without losing her Latin essence.

Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 includes some of the biggest hits of his career, such as “La Tortura” with Alejandro Sanz, “Día de enero”, and “Las de la intuición”. This work earned her the third Grammy Award of her career, winning in the category of Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, as well as four Latin Grammys: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year (for La Tortura) and Best Female Pop Vocal Album.

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 definitively established her in the English-speaking market, with singles such as “Hips Don’t Lie”, in collaboration with Wyclef Jean, which reached number one in more than 50 countries and became one of the most successful songs in pop history.

To mark these anniversaries, Spotify launched the Spotify Anniversaries series, in which Shakira shares unpublished anecdotes about the creation of her albums and reflects on their cultural impact.

The episodes include special presentations and new versions of some of his most beloved songs, accompanied by renowned guests.

In the first installment, the artist featured her compatriot Beéle and British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, reinterpreting the classic “Hips Don’t Lie”.

These commemorative EPs will be available exclusively on Spotify, offering fans a renewed, up-close experience with the artist.

The accumulated reproductions of Pies Descalzos and Fijación Oral exceed 6.1 billion globally, a figure that confirms the timelessness of his music.

Surprisingly, more than half of the current listenership comes from Generation Z, proving that Shakira’s compositions continue to connect with young audiences three decades after her debut.

With these celebrations, Spotify and Shakira not only honor the career of one of Latin music’s most influential artists, but also the permanence of a legacy that continues to inspire and evolve with each generation.
