Actor Shia LaBeouf has been released following his arrest in New Orleans, where he had been reported by two men who accused him on Tuesday night of assaulting them in a bar.
The U.S. actor was charged with two counts of simple assault following an altercation early Tuesday morning during Mardi Gras celebrations, the New Orleans Carnival, the New Orleans Police Department said.
The artist, recognized for his work in the ‘Transformers’ saga, was arrested after receiving medical attention for unspecified injuries.
According to the police statement, the events occurred around 00:45 local time on Royal Street, a tourist area known for its restaurants, hotels and stores, when LaBeouf caused a disturbance at an unidentified establishment and became “increasingly aggressive” as he was removed from the scene.

According to the official version, one of the victims reported having been hit several times by the actor with a closed fist.
Subsequently, after leaving the site and returning more aggressively, LaBeouf allegedly assaulted the same person again in the upper body and another in the nose, before finally being detained by authorities.
The actor had been on a long round of bars over the weekend since Thursday, which ended in violence in a Faubourg Marigny bar in the early hours of Shrove Tuesday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR) LaBeouf appeared for a virtual hearing before a judge of the Orleans Parish Criminal Court Magistrate Division.
Judge Simone Levine released him on his own recognizance, and instructed him to attend future court hearings. He is scheduled to return to court on March 19, reported Agencia EFE.
