On Monday afternoon, downtown Washington D.C. became a war zone after a violent armed confrontation just yards from the White House.
What appeared to be a routine Secret Service patrol ended in an exchange of bullets that left two people wounded, including a minor bystander who was in the wrong place.

The incident broke out at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue.
Chaos broke out just minutes after Vice President JD Vance’s convoy passed through the area; however, federal authorities have ruled out, for now, a direct connection between the attack and the nation’s second-in-command.
According to Matt Quinn, deputy director of the Secret Service, plainclothes agents detected a man with a suspicious attitude carrying a firearm on the outer perimeter of the presidential compound.
When cornered, the individual attempted to flee on foot, but in a desperate act, he opened fire on the officers.

The Secret Service’s response was immediate.
The agents repelled the assault, wounding the suspect, who was rushed to a hospital in federal custody.
Unfortunately, in the midst of the shooting, bullets fired by the attacker hit a child walking in the area.
Although the minor was injured, the medical services confirmed that his life is not in danger.
Emergency protocol and Trump calm
Following reports of shots fired, the U.S. Secret Service has said that the incident occurred when uniformed officers fired on an individual after they pulled a gun near the Washington Monument earlier. The individual was reportedly taken to the hospital, per Fox News.

As dictated by maximum security protocols, journalists covering the events on the White House lawn were immediately confined to the press room.
As the asphalt filled with shells and sirens, President Donald Trump was in the East Room leading a ceremony with small businessmen, an event that continued uninterrupted despite the din outside.
This new episode of violence once again puts security in the U.S. capital and the vulnerability of the areas surrounding the executive branch under scrutiny.
Do you think security around the White House should be even tighter or was it an isolated event that was controlled in time?
