City of Atlanta police confirmed Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, that they are investigating a suspected active shooter case in the area of Emory University and Emory Point CVS near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
At least one police officer was injured during the incident, according to a DeKalb County spokesman. Alleged photos of the alleged shooter are already being shared on social media, but authorities have not confirmed his identity.

The university issued an urgent message through its X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, “Active shooter on Emory Atlanta campus at Emory Point CVS. Run, hide, fight. Avoid the area.”
Atlanta Police, along with FBI agents, were quickly deployed to secure the area and assist in the investigation.
Casualties and property damage

During the shooting, at least one officer was reported injured and transported to Emory Hospital.
The severity of his injuries has not been confirmed.
A civilian was also admitted to the hospital, according to testimonies.
In the vicinity of the CDC, there are bullet-punctured windows and a police vehicle with visible impacts as a result of the exchange of gunfire.

Governor Brian Kemp called the event an attack by “deranged criminals on innocent Georgia citizens” and thanked the “brave first responders who ran toward the danger to prevent more deaths.”
