The Motion Picture Academy has issued a statement declaring its support for actress Teyana Taylor, nominated for best supporting actress at the Oscars, after a security person pushed her as she tried to get on stage for a photo op, Variety reports.

“Although the incident occurred with our outside security company, SIS, the experience of each of our guests is our responsibility. We have made it clear to them that this behavior is unacceptable,” the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said in a statement sent to the U.S. media outlet.

To which the actress has replied, in her social networks, thanking the reaction of the academy. “I really appreciate your unconditional love and support.”

In a video, which has been shared numerous times on networks, the actress can be seen telling the one who pushed her: “You’re a man who puts his hands on a woman”. Taylor repeats on several occasions that this is “very rude” behavior.

“We were extremely saddened to learn of Teyana Taylor’s experience at the end of the Oscar ceremony last night,” the release adds. We have worked with Teyana for the past several months during awards season, and she has always been extraordinary.”

The academy thanks Taylor for her “fortitude” and assures that it is taking the necessary steps “to ensure that this does not happen again.”

Teyana Taylor and the incident at the Oscar Awards

According to an eyewitness consulted by Variety, the incident occurred after the award for best film, the last of the night, which went to ‘One Battle After Another’ (‘One Battle After Another’), the film by Paul Thomas Anderson in which the actress participates.

The entire film crew wanted to have their picture taken on stage and two of the Warner executives, Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca, had trouble gaining access to the stage, so Taylor – who was on stage – went to pick them up.

According to the version gathered by the media, a security guard prevented them “by force” from returning to the stage and “put his hands on Teyana”. The source explained that the same man “had seen her go down and when they went to go up again, he tried to stop them by force,” which made Taylor angry.

According to witnesses the guard then said, “You owe me an apology” and the actress became even angrier.

TMZ Channel spoke with the actress that night and she said that “the security staff was doing a great job.”

“There’s always someone like that, but I’m perfectly fine. I’m happy. There’s nothing to worry about,” she added. The first thing people do is, no doubt, jump to conclusions. But at the end of the day I don’t tolerate disrespect, especially when it’s unjustified.”

Taylor lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Amy Madigan, star of ‘Weapons’, but ‘One Battle After Another’ was the night’s big winner with six awards.

In addition to her Oscar nomination, Taylor received nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the BAFTA and Critics’ Choice Awards, and won a Golden Globe for her role, reported Agencia EFE.
