Rosalía revealed her “admiration” for “holy women” and the “feminine mystique” in the face of a world in need of “a faith, a certainty”, during the presentation in Mexico of her new album, ‘Lux’, which is released this Friday, November 7.

“I am very interested in the feminine mysticism. The album is inspired by women saints from around the world,” the Spanish singer told reporters, mentioning the names of St. Rose of Lima, St. Teresa of Jesus and Hildegard of Bingen.

The album includes songs with titles such as ‘Sexo, violencia y llantas’, ‘Dios es un stalker’, ‘Sauvignon Blanc’, ‘La rumba del perdón’, ‘La perla’, ‘Reliquia’ and ‘Mio cristo’, in which genres such as flamenco, opera, electronica and pop are intermingled.

“I feel devotion for music,” remarked the author of ‘El mal querer’.

The singer gave a press conference last Thursday in a luxurious hotel in the Mexican capital and before a small number of media, including EFE, which was preceded by a full listening of the album in which the lyrics of the songs were projected, in which she uses many languages in addition to Spanish, such as Italian, Portuguese, English, Japanese and Catalan.

Rosalía, 33, said that she would like to “wish for less” and that the composition period has allowed her to look inward, stressing that it is an album in which she tells her truth “here and now”.

The visit to Mexico also coincided with the celebration of the Day of the Dead, one of the great festivities of the North American country.

“The references to religion are from admiration. It is not provocation,” she assured in response to questions about the cover in which she appears dressed in a white nun’s habit.

The author of ‘Saoko’ and ‘Bizcochito’ said she was uncomfortable in today’s world due to the confusion caused by the constant excess of stimuli, fake news and artificial intelligence with “videos of talking cats”.

“A faith, a certainty, is more necessary than ever,” he stressed.

On the other hand, he explained that in ‘Lux’, unlike in previous albums, “the word comes before the music” and “the music is at the service of the word”.

More than three years after the success of ‘Motomami’, Rosalía launches ‘Lux’ with Columbia Records and Sony Music, an album in which artists such as Björk, Carminho, Estrella Morente, Silvia Pérez Cruz or Yves Tumor, among others, collaborate.

On October 27 he released the song ‘Berghain’, accompanied by a video, a song that joins ‘Divinize’, ‘Porcelana’, ‘Mundo nuevo’, ‘De madrugá’, ‘La yugular’, ‘Memoria’ and ‘Magnolias’.

The digital edition of ‘Lux’ is composed of 15 tracks and the CD and vinyl editions reach 18, with the addition of ‘Focu ‘ranni’, ‘Jeanne’ and ‘Novia robot’.

A work whose launch was announced last October 20 with a message on one of the iconic screens in Times Square (New York).

That same day, the album cover was projected on the screens of Madrid’s Plaza de Callao, where the singer was briefly seen among the thousands of fans gathered in this emblematic location in the center of the Spanish capital, where she had summoned her fans for an event related to the album’s release.

Rosalía, accompanied by some of her team, drove a car through the streets of Madrid towards Callao, while a countdown was played on the screens in the square.

At around 22:00 local time she ran out of the vehicle, followed by some fans, and entered a nearby hotel, reported Agencia EFE.
