U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday lamented the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis, while maintaining that the victims “were no angels.”
In an interview with NBC News, the president expressed his regret for the deaths, but stressed that both cases had “backgrounds and contexts” that, according to him, complicate the assessment of what happened and said that neither of them were angels.

In the same interview with NBC News, President Donald Trump considered that an electoral formula for 2028 composed of his vice president, JD Vance, and Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, would be “hard to beat”, although he avoided pronouncing on who should lead the eventual Republican candidacy.
The president pointed out that both share “great intelligence”, although he acknowledged that there are differences in style.
“I would say one is slightly more diplomatic than the other,” commented Trump, who praised their political skills and assured that “the combination of JD and Marco would be very difficult to defeat.”
The president, however, was cautious about the political future of the Republican Party and affirmed that there is still time to define the candidacies.
“I don’t want to get into that. We have three years left,” he said, insisting that he is not looking to provoke “a discussion” within his team.
Both Vance, who assumed the Vice Presidency in 2025, and Rubio, appointed Secretary of State at the beginning of Trump’s current term, are considered rising figures within the party and potential contenders in the 2028 Republican primaries.
