The actor said he is concerned that cinema is losing relevance and mentioned that he would not be interested in working in areas such as opera or ballet, disciplines which, he said, many people feel should be kept alive even though they no longer arouse the same interest from the public.

Goldberg warned that criticizing other art forms can generate negative reactions, especially considering that Chalamet himself comes from a family linked to the world of dance.
Even so, the actor also received support on social networks. Some users pointed out that his comment may have been misinterpreted and that his intention was probably to warn about the risk of cinema becoming inaccessible to the general public.

Among those who have shown solidarity with the actor are Karla Sofía Gascónstar of the film Emilia Perez. The actress shared a meme on social networks in which she appears next to the character played by Chalamet in Marty Supreme, as a way of supporting him.
In the meantime, the voting process of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences already took place between February 26 and March 5, a few days before the ceremony.
