President Donald Trump assured that his administration has sent a “huge fleet” of the U.S. Navy to waters near Iran, in a context of growing tension over the crackdown on anti-government protests that have been shaking the Persian country for weeks.

The president warned Tehran that it must cease violence against demonstrators, although he affirmed that Washington seeks to avoid a direct confrontation. The statements were made aboard Air Force One, when Trump was questioned by reporters about the situation between the two countries.

“We have a huge fleet going over there.”

“We have a lot of ships heading in that direction, just in case. We have a huge fleet heading that way, and we’ll see what happens,” the president said, without specifying the number of ships or the type of mission they will fulfill.

Trump insisted that his intention is not to escalate the conflict, but stressed that the United States maintains constant vigilance over the Iranian regime. “I would prefer nothing to happen, but we are watching them very closely,” he added.

Defense and security experts have pointed to recent moves by the U.S. Navy that are consistent with the president’s words.

Among them, the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, along with its strike group, was reportedly seen leaving the South China Sea with an apparent course for the Indian Ocean, a key area for operations in the Middle East.

Although the Pentagon has not officially confirmed the final destination of the naval group, such deployments are often interpreted as a sign of deterrent military pressure.

Trump claims his pressure prevented executions

During his remarks, Trump reiterated a claim he had previously made: that his administration succeeded in halting executions in Iran.

“I stopped 837 executions on Thursday last week. Otherwise, they would have died. They would have all been hanged,” he assured, referring to people linked to the anti-government protests.

These demonstrations have been driven by economic deterioration, inflation and social unrest, and have generated international concern over allegations of excessive use of force and human rights violations.

When questioned about whether the United States seeks to have Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei step down or relinquish power, Trump avoided giving a direct answer.

“I don’t want to go into details,” he said, although he warned again that “a lot of murders are being committed.”

The White House has not clarified whether the naval deployment is in response to a diplomatic or military strategy or both, nor how long U.S. forces will remain in the region.

Why does this matter for those living in the U.S.?

For the U.S. Hispanic community, escalating tensions with Iran may have indirect impacts, especially on issues such as gasoline prices, energy markets, foreign policy and military spending.

In addition, this type of crisis often influences the internal political debate and the priorities of the federal government.

For now, the situation is still developing and the U.S. government is maintaining a cautionary stance, while the international community is closely watching the evolution of the conflict.
