U.S. President Donald Trump gave an interview on 60 Minutes and said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids “haven’t gone far enough” and defended the violent tactics employed by his agents to “get people out” of the U.S.
In the CBS 60 Minutes interview, Trump was questioned about whether those raids went too far, according to videos showing ICE agents pushing a woman to the ground, using tear gas in a residential area and breaking glass on a vehicle.

“No, I don’t think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the judges, the liberal judges that (former Democratic presidents) Biden and Obama put in,” he said.
Next, when asked if he was okay with the tactics seen in the videos, he said yes, “because you have to get people outside.”
He pointed out that “many are murderers”, resorting to one of the arguments for his campaign of mass deportations, in which he criminalizes immigrants in a generalized manner.
However, when pressed about the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants who are not criminals, he avoided saying directly whether that is the “intention” of his government, and stated: “We must start with a policy, and the policy must be: you entered the country illegally, you are going to leave”.
Trump also avoided specifying a goal in his immigration policy that would allow him to “declare mission accomplished” because he estimates that there are 25 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., a figure he has repeated before and for which he provides no evidence.
When questioned about the deportations of essential workers, which are affecting the labor market in several states, Trump initially apostrophized that these were “criminal gardeners,” and then asserted that he needs “gardeners and farmers more than anyone else.”
