With a simultaneous post on all of his social networks on Sunday, July 20, President Donald Trump celebrated his six-month return to the White House with a powerful message that has generated concern among migrant advocates and Hispanic communities in the United States.

“ATTENTION: TRUMP DID NOT COME TO PLAY. Six months in. All gas. No brakes. The winning will continue. The deportations will continue. The memes will continue. THE GOLDEN AGE WILL CONTINUE!” reads the message posted on networks such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

The message, which mixes the provocative style that has characterized the president’s communication with an explicit warning that his immigration policy will continue to harden, comes just six months after his return to the White House following his electoral victory in 2024.

From day one of his second term, Trump has prioritized a heavy-handed immigration agenda.

He has ordered increased daily apprehensions of migrants, expanding the capabilities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and facilitating expedited deportations.

One of the most controversial moves has been the elimination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for citizens from countries such as Venezuela, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua and Afghanistan.

That has left hundreds of thousands of people at risk of deportation, many with years or decades of U.S. residency.

In addition, deportations to third countries have resumed, including to maximum security facilities such as the prison in El Salvador, the naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the new ICE detention center known as “Alcatraz Cayman” in Florida.

Massive raids and military deployment

Immigration raids have escalated in sanctuary cities such as Los Angeles, sparking massive protests by activists, churches and Latino communities.

In response, Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard and thousands of Marines, despite opposition from state and local authorities.

The measure was described by civil rights organizations as an excessive use of force and an attack on the balance between federal and state powers.

For the Hispanic community, especially the nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants and the millions more under immigration relief programs, Trump’s message is not just symbolic: it represents a real increase in the risk of arrest, family separation and deportation.

Also of concern is the rhetoric employed by the president, which mixes political entertainment with concrete threats, something that, according to human rights experts, “dehumanizes migration policy and normalizes fear among entire communities.”

Six months of Trump: A polarizing government

This first half of Trump’s term has been marked by protectionist policies, such as new tariffs on Mexico, Canada and the European Union, as well as cuts to international aid.

As well as a split with Elon Musk following the Epstein scandal.

However, it is on the immigration issue where his administration has been most aggressive.

Trump has not only expanded funding for ICE, but has also pressured Latin American governments to tighten border control.

In addition, he has toughened his discourse against countries such as Colombia, Brazil and Panama, where he seeks to reduce Chinese influence in the region.

With his release this Sunday, Trump makes it clear that deportations will remain a central focus of his second term.

And if anything was clear in his words, it is that what he calls “the golden age” is just beginning for him… but for millions of immigrants, it could represent a time of extreme uncertainty.
