The President of the United States, Donald Trump, once again generated controversy by sharing on Truth Social a fake video created with artificial intelligence that simulates the arrest of former President Barack Obama in the Oval Office. In the manipulated sequence, based on a real November 2016 meeting between Trump and Obama, FBI agents appear bursting into the room, forcing Obama to kneel while handcuffing him. The song “Y.M.C.A.” by the band Village People plays in the background and Trump appears smiling watching the scene.

In addition, the montage includes fictional scenes of Obama in prison in an orange uniform, and edited excerpts of speeches by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi with the phrase: “No one is above the law.”

Accusations of conspiracy without evidence

This publication adds to a series of recent accusations by Trump against the Obama administration, whom he accuses of having set up a “conspiracy” to delegitimize his victory in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump claimed that Obama was the “leader of the operation” and affirmed, without evidence, that there are documents signed by the former president ordering espionage against him.

He said these documents were marked as “highly classified” to conceal the alleged scheme.

“The highly classified was already made public. What they did in 2016 and then also in 2020 is very criminal,” Trump stated.

He also held other Democratic leaders such as Hillary Clinton, James Clapper, James Comey and former President Joe Biden accountable.

Attempt to divert attention from the Epstein case

Trump’s statements and publications coincide with the re-emergence of the Jeffrey Epstein case in the public debate.

The president has avoided commenting on the investigations involving Ghislaine Maxwell, an accomplice of the deceased child molester, who will soon be interrogated in prison.

When questioned about Epstein’s alleged client list and a letter with obscene content that he allegedly sent to the financier, Trump denied everything and called the issue a “witch hunt.”

“What should be being discussed is that they caught Obama red-handed,” he said in a meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Again diverting the focus from the Epstein case to his political accusations.

Concern about misinformation with AI

This is not the first time Trump has disseminated content manipulated with artificial intelligence.

In February he shared another video falsely showing the Gaza Strip transformed into a luxury resort.

Cybersecurity and digital rights specialists warn that AI-generated disinformation poses a serious threat.

Especially during election periods or political crises.

Manipulation of visual content can confuse the public and alter perceptions of important facts.
