The county coroner’s office has not yet officially confirmed the cause of death.

Although everything points to a possible case of heat stroke due to prolonged confinement inside the vehicle.

Verify that the child care center has clear protocols for counting children before and after activities outside the classroom.

Require written check-in and check-out records.

Ask if the school transportation includes final verification systems before closing the vehicle.

While Brownsville mourns the loss of a young child, this case should serve as a warning to ensure that no other child falls victim to preventable neglect.
