A driver for delivery platform DoorDash was shot multiple times early Sunday morning in a residential area of Mesquite, east of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, in a case that authorities are still investigating and that has caused concern among delivery app workers.
As confirmed by the Mesquite Police Department, the attack occurred shortly after midnight, on the block of Birch Bend, when the victim – identified as Manuel – was making a home food delivery.

Neighbors reported hearing several gunshots, followed by the prolonged sound of a horn.
Upon exiting, they found the delivery driver seriously injured, leaning on his vehicle and calling for help.
“I heard gunshots and then someone honking their horn nonstop. When I came outside, I saw a man screaming that he had been shot five times,” neighborhood resident Robert McNair told local FOX 4.
“He kept repeating, ‘I’m a DoorDash delivery guy, I’m a DoorDash delivery guy.’ He was in front of the house waiting for his order.”
According to initial reports, the assailant escaped before the officers arrived, who found the driver conscious, although with gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital, but authorities have not confirmed his current condition.
Mesquite Police continue investigation

Mesquite police reported that detectives continue to analyze neighborhood security cameras in an attempt to identify the perpetrator and determine whether the attack was an attempted robbery, a dispute or a random act of violence.
So far, authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect lived in the area or if there was any relationship between the victim and the attacker.
“Investigators are still actively working to clarify the facts,” was the department’s only official response to the media.
Authorities urged anyone with information or residential camera footage to contact the Mesquite Police Department anonymously at (972) 285-6336.
