The first half was a game of few arrivals to the areas with many fouls and collisions.

Mexico gave up a chance to score in the clearest play of the first half when Edson Álvarez hit the post.

After 45 minutes with both teams tangled in the middle of the field, both teams came out in search of goals in the second half.

For the second half, Paraguayan coach Gustavo Alfaro sent Julio Enciso and Damián Bobadilla onto the field, and they immediately reaped the rewards with a pair of goals.

In the 48th Enciso set up Sanabria, who scored with his left foot to make it 0-1.

Mexico equalized in the 54th minute with a penalty kick converted by Jiménez, but the Paraguayans responded immediately with a header in the 56th minute by Bobadilla.

The Paraguayans stood up well defensively and exposed the shortcomings of the Mexican attack.

Frustrated, in the 84th minute the Mexico fans chanted the homophobic shout that they usually repeat when their team plays badly, which caused the game to stop for a few seconds.

In the 88th minute, Enciso had the third goal in his boots, but Malagón appeared in time to clear the ball; in the 90th+4th minute, the goalkeeper again appeared in time to stop Diego González, who was about to put the ball in the net.

For Mexico, the FIFA day was a dismal performance with a goalless draw against Uruguay and today’s setback that provoked offenses from their fans, who insisted on shouting discriminatory cries.
