The United States confirmed on Friday its candidacy for the title of the VI World Baseball Classic by crushing Brazil 15-5 in the game that closed the first day of Group B in Houston (Texas).
The home team found virtually no resistance at Daikin Park, and Brazil gave up its hopes in the top of the first inning, when Aaron Judge’s round-tripper plated Bobby Whitt to make it 2-0. Brazil responded with a Lucas Ramirez home run to make it 2-1 at the end of the first inning.

In the third, an uncontrolled pitch by 17-year-old pitcher Joseph Contreras opened the door for Kyle Schwarber to extend the lead to 3-1.
The U.S. found its rally in the fifth with a Byron Buxton RBI and Brice Turang triple that drove in Buxton, Cal Releigh and Roman Anthony to pull away 7-1.
The Brazilian ninth cut it to 7-4 in the seventh thanks to a Lucas Rojo hit, which pushed in a run by Leonardo Reginatto and a Victor Mascai homer that drove in Rojo (Filed as: United States vs Brazil World Baseball Classic).

The Americans answered an inning later with a single by Roman Anthony that produced Aaron Judge’s run to make it 8-4.
In the bottom of the eighth Luca Ramirez struck again with a solo home run to bring Brazil within 8-5.
The answer came with Bryce Harper’s single that drove in Brice Turang to make it 9-5.
And it continued thanks to the lack of control of relievers Tomas López and Víctor Takahashi, who gave up four forced runs.
They added two more, one by Anthony and the other by Turang, to seal the 15-5 final score.
This Saturday the United States will take on Great Britain and Brazil will face Italy (Filed under: United States vs Brazil World Baseball Classic).
