Washington’s military machine revs up. Under the premise of ‘defeat and destroy’ Tehran’s capabilities, the US sends more Marines to Iran in a rapid response expedition that includes the assault ship USS Tripoli.

With more than 5,000 troops on the way, the Pentagon seeks to seal the Strait of Hormuz against the growing Iranian offensive.

Deployment of USS Tripoli: 5,000 troops to Hormuz

The United States has sent a Marine expedition to the Middle East, a rapid response force designed to respond on short notice to military crises, U.S. media reported Friday.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that, as Iran intensifies its attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has approved a request from U. S. Central Command for the deployment of an amphibious group and its attached expeditionary unit, according to three U.S. officials cited by the media outlet.

This group usually consists of several ships and is accompanied by about 5,000 Marines and sailors, details the Wall Street Journal.

The USS Tripoli, which was in Japan, is now headed to the Middle East, said two of the officials, who said that Marines are already deployed in the area to support operations in Iran.

These types of units have traditionally been used for missions such as large-scale evacuations and operations requiring ship-to-shore movements, including raids and assaults.

They also have a ground and air combat component, and some units are trained to sustain special operations for weeks at a time.

Hegseth assured Friday that there is “no need to worry” about the Iranian attacks that have disrupted the traffic of crude oil and gas and goods through the Strait of Hormuz because Washington has a plan and is dealing with the situation.

“We have been dealing with it for some time and there is no need to worry. We have a plan in place to defeat, destroy and disable all of their significant military capabilities at a pace the world has never seen before,” he told a news conference.
