The Bakersfield, California community is in mourning and outrage after the identity of the victim of a brutal attack on College Avenue was confirmed.
It is about Yolanda Rojo, a young woman of only 30 years old, whose life was violently taken in a stabbing in Bakersfield, leaving an irreparable void in her family and, most tragically, two little orphans who today do not understand why their mother is no longer coming home.
A night of terror on College Avenue
The facts date back to last March 25.
It was approximately 9:47 p.m. when Bakersfield Police Department (BPD) officers received a report of an assault in the 7000 block of College Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers were confronted with a harrowing scene: Yolanda had serious injuries consistent with a stabbing.
Although she was rushed to Kern Medical, the doctors’ efforts were in vain.
Yolanda Rojo succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter, becoming the face of a tragedy that has shocked all of Kern County.
Suspect’s capture: A hit and run
The investigation progressed at a rapid pace.
Authorities identified 33-year-old Victor Farias as the main suspect in the attack.
The manhunt for Farias took a dramatic turn just two hours after the stabbing, when his vehicle was found abandoned near Highway 58 and Tucker Road in the vicinity of Tehachapi.
According to reports, the car was involved in what appeared to be a hit-and-run collision.
Finally, the following day, the Tehachapi Police managed to locate Farias and proceed with his arrest, taking him into custody to answer for this heinous crime.
The Future of Two Girls: A Call for Solidarity

Beyond the police details, the pain is concentrated in the Rojo family home.
Yolanda was not only a daughter, granddaughter and dear friend; she was the mother of two girls only 4 and 6 years old.
Faced with uncertainty, the family started a campaign on GoFundMe to create a trust fund to ensure the welfare and education of the children.
“As you may have heard on the news, our family is going through an extremely difficult time…we kindly ask for any donations to help build a fund for your two daughters,” reads the family’s emotional message.
The response from the community has not been long in coming, quickly raising more than $24,000, demonstrating that in times of darkness, solidarity is the guiding light.
Any support, no matter how small, counts for these girls who today face the greatest loss.
