Pop star Miley Cyrus received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Friday that “represents the immortality” of her legacy, in a ceremony where she was accompanied by actress Anya Taylor-Joy and renowned fashion designer Donatella Versace.
“My father used to say that a skyscraper starts with a jackhammer – and so does a star on the Walk of Fame!” the American star celebrated during a speech accepting the 2,845th star, which was placed in front of the Angelina headquarters of the popular wax museum chain Madame Tussauds, one of the busiest streets in Los Angeles.
Cyrus recalled one of the songs in her repertoire entitled ‘Walk of Fame’, which precisely honors this famous boulevard, and whose closing ends with the mantra, “you will live forever”.
“While I love the lyrics, the fact that I won’t (be immortal) is what creates the urgency that ignites my heart. My life, my art and my desire to tear down the walls of whatever box we’ve been fooled into believing exists,” he added.
During the event, both the Buenos Aires-raised actress and the celebrated designer and one of the Cyrus family’s best friends extolled her ability to “do whatever you want, without asking anyone’s permission.”
“We’re not just celebrating a career, we’re celebrating a woman who taught an entire generation to take ownership of their own history,” said Taylor-Joy.
A three-time Golden Globe nominee in the music categories, Cyrus “is an acclaimed songwriter with numerous platinum and diamond certified singles and albums,” the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said in a statement praising the one-time pop-rock superstar Hannah Montana in the Disney series that defined an entire generation in the 2000s.
Twenty years after her debut in ‘Hannah Montana,’ the 33-year-old “has continually transformed pop music, moving fluidly between genres such as pop, rock, country, soul and alternative, establishing herself as a true musical chameleon,” the agency said.
Cyrus won her first Grammy in 2024 for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Flowers,’ the best-selling single around the world in 2023.
Both the album ‘Something Beautiful’ and the hit ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ “reflect a career defined not by eras, but by evolution, cementing Miley Cyrus as an enduring and influential voice in music history,” the brief added.
Beyond music, Cyrus is also the founder of the Happy Hippie Foundation, which supports LGBTQ+ youth; as well as the Miley Cyrus Foundation, dedicated to supporting mothers in all their diversity, reported Agencia EFE.
