Neymar, who is training with the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup, was diagnosed with a grade II muscle injury in the calf region and will be out for “two to three weeks,” although he will not leave the Canarinha, the CBF said Thursday.
The doctor of the Brazilian national team, Rodrigo Lasmar, said at a press conference that the Santos 10 will undergo “intensive treatment” in the coming days with the professionals of the ‘Seleção’.
Missed the first training session with Brazil

Neymar joined Brazil’s training camp in Teresópolis, in the Rio de Janeiro highlands, on Wednesday.
Along with another 20 or so players called up by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
However, he missed the first training session and went to a clinic to undergo “complementary examinations”.
Santos reported in the days prior to the training camp that the attacker had only an “edema” in his calf.
But the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) wanted to have its own diagnosis.
Neymar underwent an MRI that revealed a “grade II muscle injury in the calf,” Lasmar told reporters.
“He will continue under intensive treatment with us and within two to three weeks he will be released. That is the expectation,” said the doctor.

Doubtful for World Cup debut

Due to this injury, Neymar will surely miss the Canarinha’s two previous friendlies before the World Cup.
Against Panama, on Sunday at the Maracana Stadium, and Egypt, on June 6 at the Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland (United States).
According to those deadlines, he will also be a doubt for the World Cup Group C opener between the United States, Mexico and Canada against Morocco on June 13 in New Jersey.
Brazil will next face Haiti on June 19 in Philadelphia and Scotland five days later in Miami.
Neymar’s presence in Ancelotti’s list came as a surprise.
The Italian coach had never called him up since taking over the Canarinha reins in May 2025.
However, ‘Carletto’ finally opted to call him up after observing his physical progression in recent months and having achieved some continuity in the Santos shirt.
