Colt Gray: The Terrifying Story of the Apalachee Shooter That Shocked the Nation

On September 4, 2024, the quiet community of Winder, Georgia, was shaken by a tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

Colt Gray, a 14-year-old student, opened fire in the high school hallways, killing four people: two classmates and two teachers.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Colt Gray entered the high school armed with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle, firing indiscriminately.

The fatalities were students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

In addition, nine people were injured during the incident.

Colt Gray had reportedly been on the FBI’s radar since May 2023 due to anonymous online threats about possible school shootings, accompanied by photographs of guns.

However, at the time, the authorities did not find sufficient evidence to act against him.

Following the shooting, Colin Gray, father of Colt Gray, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to minors.

He is accused of providing his son with the weapon used in the attack, despite knowing of Colt’s troubling background.

Colin Gray faces a possible sentence of up to 180 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

The Colt Gray tragedy deeply affected the Hispanic community, as one of the victims, Christian Angulo, was of Latino descent.

“He was only 14 years old. He was a very good boy, very sweet and loving. Many loved him very much. His loss was so sudden and unexpected. We are truly heartbroken. He really didn’t deserve this,” Christian’s sister, Lisette Angulo, wrote on the GoFundMe page set up in his honor.
