Emergency crews responded to the scene and confirmed that at least one person was dead, although at this time he has not been identified.

According to statements by Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills, the explosion appears to have been “an intentional act of violence.”

Possible car bomb

Federal agents preliminarily reported that the origin of the explosion could have been a vehicle loaded with explosives, although this hypothesis has not been officially confirmed.

Investigators said the deceased may have been the person who handled or activated the device, but cautioned that the investigation is at a very early stage and a clear motive has not yet been determined.

The explosion destroyed part of the building housing the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic, managed by Dr. Maher Abdallah, who confirmed to the media that his staff is safe.

Fortunately, the most sensitive area of the center – where embryos are stored and in vitro fertilization is performed – was not damaged.

The patient care office, however, was seriously affected.
