During a recent morning conference from the National Palace, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her firm rejection of the immigration raids implemented by U.S. authorities, particularly by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. She stated that these measures seriously affect people who “work honestly” and contribute significantly to the U.S. economy.

“Mexico cannot remain silent when our fellow citizens are persecuted for the simple fact of working to support their families,” declared Sheinbaum in relation to the recent intensified immigration operations in cities such as Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago, where a large part of the Mexican community in the U.S. resides.

Claudia Sheinbaum revealed that in her recent meeting with the Under Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Nicole Franchot, they addressed this issue directly.

At the meeting, held in Mexico City on June 10, 2025, the president expressed her concern about the massive raids.

He stressed that they affect both human dignity and binational economic development.

“We clearly convey that these actions not only harm our migrant brothers and sisters, but also the very economy and social coexistence in the United States,” Sheinbaum explained.

The President reiterated that Mexico advocates an immigration policy with a human face and full respect for the rights of those who work honestly regardless of their immigration status.

Migrant advocacy organizations, such as RAICES Texas and United We Dream, applauded Sheinbaum’s statements.

They stress the importance of having Latin American leadership that openly defends undocumented workers.

At the same time, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also expressed her disagreement with the federal operations.

He assured that his city “will not cooperate with raids that generate fear in hard-working communities”.

Finally, Claudia Sheinbaum’s positioning strengthens the discourse in defense of Mexican migrants and Latinos in general.
