Mexican songwriter Gera Demara, a native of Mexicali and son of singer-songwriter Jerry Demara, has publicly accused regional Mexican singer Christian Nodal of swindling and misappropriating the song “Amé”.

According to the young musician, he was promised a duet in exchange for his composition. However, after delivering the song, Nodal recorded it and included it in his album, without fulfilling the agreement or giving proper credit. .

The case went viral after a video on TikTok posted by Demara, using a clown filter, where he expresses his frustration:

“Me, when a big artist promises me to record a duet in exchange for a song of mine, he takes out my song and gets pendejo with the duet, haha.”

Although he never mentioned Nodal, fans and network users connected the facts because of the release of the song in April 2025 and the tattoo of the lyrics that his wife, Ángela Aguilar, got in honor of the song.

Released on April 11, 2025, “Amé” was presented as a mariachi ballad in Nodal’s signature style.

The song quickly gained popularity for its emotional lyrics, in which significant moments of love and shared routine are recalled, being interpreted as a sentimental expression of their relationship.

Beyond Demara’s video, media outlets such as El Heraldo, La Razón, BI Noticias and ABC Noticias reported on the accusation, reinforced by users who consider that the deception could repeat practices criticized in the Aguilar family.

Meanwhile, Nodal remains silent; he has not issued an official response nor has he reacted to the press.

What are the legal implications?

Although Demara has not announced a formal lawsuit, experts point out that if he has authorship registrations recognized by the National Copyright Institute (INDAUTOR) or a musical registry, he would have grounds for a lawsuit for breach of contract or recognition of authorship and copyrights.

The case is in a phase of public pressure, with no confirmed judicial advances.

Complexity of the case

The accusation against Christian Nodal reflects the complexity of the music industry, where emerging talent can be left vulnerable without clear protection mechanisms.

For the U.S. Hispanic community, this case serves as a lesson on the importance of formalizing creative rights and exercising caution in artistic alliances.

The story is still open: if Gera Demara takes legal action or if Nodal responds, the outcome could set a precedent for the industry.
