U.S. President Donald Trump mourned Tuesday the death of the famous American actor Robert Redford, whom he defined as “great”.
The president learned the news when he was questioned by the press at the White House, before leaving for the United Kingdom for a state visit.

When a reporter explained that Redford, 89, died in his sleep at his home, Trump replied, “Well, I guess that’s a good way to go.
“But I will say Robert Redford was great. He had a string of years where there was no one better.”
The Republican leader added that Redford made “seven or eight great movies” and stressed that there was a time when he was the “most popular” actor.
Trump dedicated these words to him despite the fact that Redford was critical of the president and during his first term he labeled his government as “dictatorial”.
The actor died in his sleep
Redford died in his sleep in the early hours of the morning at his home outside his mountain residence in Provo, his representative, Rogers & Cowan PMK public relations firm CEO Cindi Berger, said in a statement.
“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025 at his home in Sundance, in the mountains of Utah, the place he loved, surrounded by his loved ones,” Berger said.
“He will be greatly missed. The family requests privacy,” the spokeswoman added.
The performer, born in 1936 in Santa Monica, California, is one of the most recognized stars of American cinema and had a gigantic impact on Hollywood as an actor, director and promoter of the independent film scene with the creation of the Sundance Film Festival.
He won an Oscar in 1980 for directing the film ‘Ordinary People’, which garnered six nominations, and was nominated for the statuette on several occasions.
