British actor Daniel Radcliffe, known for his iconic role in the Harry Potter film series, was nominated Tuesday for a Tony Award in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for his work in ‘Every Brilliant Thing’.
Radcliffe will compete against Nathan Lane (‘Death of a Salesman’), John Lithgow (‘Giant’), Mark Strong (‘Oedipus’) and Will Harrison (‘Punch’).
This 79th edition of the Tony Awards is notable for a notable dearth of new Broadway musicals, just eleven compared to last year’s 21.
Radcliffe’s nomination was announced by CBS, which also revealed that the award for Best New Musical will be contested by ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘Schmigadoon!’, ‘Titaníque’ and ‘Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)’.
For its part, the fight for the award for Best New Play features a tightly contested selection of nominees including ‘The Balusters’, ‘Giant’, ‘Liberation’ and ‘Little Bear Ridge Road’.

In the acting section, the fight for the Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical will be led by Nicholas Christopher, for his role in ‘Chess’, actor Luke Evans for his participation in the classic ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, Sam Tutty for his work in ‘Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)’ and the doublet of nominees for ‘Ragtime’, which has managed to place both Joshua Henry and Brandon Uranowitz in the nomination.
Finally, in the female category for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, the award will be contested by Sara Chase, for her performance in ‘Schmigadoon!’, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, for ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, Caissie Levy (‘Ragtime’), Marla Mindelle (‘Titaníque’) and Christiani Pitts, who will seek the award for her role in ‘Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)’.
The rest of the nominations will be announced on Tuesday via the organization’s official YouTube channel by actors Uzo Aduba, a 2022 Tony nominee, and Darren Criss, last year’s winner for lead actor in a musical.
The Tony Awards gala will be held on Sunday, June 7 at New York’s iconic Radio City Music Hall and will be hosted by pop star Pink, who currently has two of her songs playing on Broadway stages, ‘Moulin Rouge!’ and ‘& Juliet’, reported Agencia EFE.
