Colombian actor Mauricio Henao, recognized for his participation in successful international productions, generated a strong discussion on social networks after publicly denouncing what he considers a serious lack of openness in Televisa towards new or “different” talents. His criticism, launched through the X platform (formerly Twitter), went viral and rekindled a debate that has been going on for years among Mexican telenovela audiences: Is Televisa still betting only on the same old protagonists?

It all started when Henao decided to audition for a new project within Televisa, motivated by the possibility that the company was looking for fresh faces. However, his experience ended up being the opposite of what he expected.

In a direct and frustrated message, he wrote: “When I give the opportunity to audition at Televisa I say: maybe they are finally looking for different actors… 🤦🏻‍♂️ That’s how I was left and so are all those who ask for new faces over there”.

The publication revealed not only his personal annoyance, but also a deeper criticism: the television network’s alleged systematic preference for actors who are part of its regular cast.

Mauricio Henao is not a newcomer to the industry. His career includes outstanding participations in productions such as:

  • The inheritance

  • Mrs. Steel

  • Physicians, lifeline

Despite his trajectory, the actor assures that he ran into an insurmountable wall in San Angel.

The outrage intensified when it was revealed that Henao’s audition was for the remake of the iconic telenovela “Hermanos Coraje”, one of the star projects in development.

The Colombian’s criticism was interpreted by many as an obvious dig at Sebastián Rulli, one of Televisa’s most frequent and established leading actors. Although Henao did not mention names, users on social networks pointed out that the comment was aimed at the practice of always choosing the same figures for starring projects, even when there are more options.

The actor’s complaint was immediately echoed by thousands of followers and consumers of telenovelas. On X, Instagram and TikTok comments multiplied, such as: “Always the same protagonists”, “Actors with three novelas in one year, that’s why everything feels the same”, “The stories no longer work because they don’t take risks”.

Many pointed out that the lack of renewal and diversity of actors directly affects the freshness of the productions and the credibility of the characters.

Mauricio Henao’s claim not only exposes his personal experience, but also uncovers a broader conversation about the need to open spaces for new performers, coming from other countries or with styles different from those already established.

According to viewers, the constant repetition of the same talent has contributed to the decline in quality and impact of some recent telenovelas, generating a disconnect with younger audiences.

Although Televisa has not officially responded to Henao’s statements, the debate generated could put pressure on the industry to rethink its screening practices, especially in an era when competition with digital platforms demands constant renewal.

For now, the controversy continues to grow, and Mauricio Henao’s name has become the most recent -and loudest- voice of a claim that thousands of viewers have shared for years.
