Actor Sebastian Stan said Tuesday at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival that in the United States there is “a really very serious situation” that is “not to be taken lightly.”
Stan, who played U.S. President Donald Trump in the film ‘The Apprentice’ (‘The Apprentice’, 2024), cited “media concentration, censorship, threats, so-called lawsuits that seem endless but in reality go nowhere….”

Something that in his opinion “was already coming” and recalled that when they made the film ‘The Apprentice’, which tells the escalation to power of Trump, they already encountered such problems, he explained during the presentation in Cannes of the film ‘Fjord’ by Cristian Mungiu.
Trump tried to stop the Cannes premiere in 2024 of ‘The Apprentice’, directed by Ali Abbasi, after calling it “garbage”, while his campaign team – the presidential election was being held in November that year – claimed the film was “pure malicious defamation”.
“Three days before the (Cannes) festival, we weren’t sure if the film would be screened,” said Stan, who recalled that all this happened before other attacks on free speech by Trump, such as the one suffered by host Jimmy Kimmel, whose show was even temporarily suspended at the request of the U.S. president.

The actor, of Romanian origin, and who has become very popular for his participation in Marvel superhero movies playing Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier, was very serious when he talked about all this.
When a journalist asked him about his experience with ‘The Apprentice’, which led to his opinions about Trump, some laughter was heard in the room. And he stated, “To be honest, it’s not a matter to take lightly,” reported Agencia EFE.
