Mexican boxing could be about to witness the emergence of a new star.
So believes Saúl Canelo Álvarez, who recently publicly declared who he believes is the future face of national pugilism, Marco Verde, Olympic medalist in Paris 2024.
His successor

During an interview with the specialized media FightHype, Canelo Alvarez did not hesitate when asked about the next great figure of Mexican boxing, Marco Verde.
“There are many talented youngsters, but the most likely right now is Marco Verde. He’s going to be one of the best emerging fighters in Mexico,” said the tapatío.
This statement did not go unnoticed, coming from the most successful Mexican boxer today.
Who is Marco Verde?

Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez, born in Mazatlan in 2002, has shined in amateur boxing.
He won the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first Mexican to reach an Olympic boxing final in four decades.
He was also champion at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and the San Salvador 2023 Central American Games.
Professional debut

Now, Marco Verde is preparing to make the leap to the professional ranks under the guidance of trainer Eddy Reynoso and the Canelo Team.
His debut is scheduled for May 3, 2025 in Saudi Arabia, on the same bill in which Canelo Alvarez will face Cuban William Scull for the IBF super middleweight title.
