The Mexican Soccer Federation(FMF) and Club Chivas de Guadalajara imposed sanctions on Javier “Chicharito” Hernández after he published a series of videos on social networks with statements considered sexist and misogynistic. In them, Hernández stated that women should “honor masculinity”, dedicate their lives to taking care of the home and allow themselves to be led by men, which unleashed widespread public rejection.
The Gender and Diversity Commission of the FMF opened a disciplinary process for “media violence” and gender stereotypes, imposing a financial fine and a formal warning that more severe sanctions would be applied if he reoffends. The Guadalajara club, for its part, stated that it acted in accordance with its internal regulations and distanced itself from the player’s comments.
What was the content of the videos?

In clips broadcast on TikTok and Instagram, Chicharito questioned why many women demand a male provider.
But see housecleaning as “patriarchal oppression”.
He used expressions such as: “The home is not patriarchy, it is your temple” and affirmed that women “are eradicating masculinity” by becoming “hypersensitive”.
He further suggested that they should “embody their feminine energy by caring, nurturing… cleaning”, and stressed that “taking responsibility for their energy is also loving them”.
Criticism was not long in coming: Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, called the comments “very macho” and said she still has a lot to learn about equality.
Actress Sara Sálamo also spoke out, calling on FIFA to impose exemplary sanctions and recalling that soccer should promote respect and fairness.
Even Chivas Femenil players expressed their rejection and shared critical messages on social networks.
Public reaction and apology

Following the controversy, Chicharito Hernández issued a public apology, acknowledging that his words caused harm and expressing that no offense was intended.
He also promised to reflect and learn from the mistake.
