In July 2025, authorities in Hillsborough County (Riverview, Florida) issued an alert after detecting a group of teenagers participating in the viral “Door Kick Challenge.”
The trend consists of running up to the door of a house, hitting it hard and fleeing while filming the act to upload it to social networks, but this time, the youths used weapons.
Arrests and criminal charges in connection with viral challenge

In one of the recorded incidents, a minor even fired an airsoft gun after kicking the door, increasing the level of risk and terror among residents.
The video was captured by a security camera and released by the local sheriff’s office.
In DeBary, Volusia County, two teenagers, ages 13 and 15, were arrested for participating in this viral prank.
After kicking the door open, they were recorded by Ring cameras and subsequently captured by police.
Both face felony burglary charges, despite having justified the act as a simple prank.
One of them confessed that they did the viral challenge “out of stupidity,” according to authorities.
Police warnings: real danger behind entertainment

Sheriff Mike Chitwood warned that this viral challenge could end in tragedy: “It’s a good way to end up dead, especially in Florida,” he said, referring tocastle doctrine laws, where an owner can shoot if they perceive a threat.
Even without intent to enter, a knock could be interpreted as attempted robbery.
One resident stated that he awoke to a loud bang and upon checking his video camera, found the masked face of one of the minors fleeing after the act.
Psychology of clout-chasing: why do they do it?

Technology experts and parents warn that this viral challenge is spread by the search for attention, approval and validation among peers.
Titania Jordan of Bark Technologies explains that many teens prioritize virality over safety: they seek “likes,” comments and video sharing as a sign of popularity.
According to her, even if they know it’s wrong, peer pressure often weighs more heavily.
El reto viral del 'Kick Door Challenge' puede resultar muy peligroso para quienes lo hacen porque pudieran ser objeto de disparos (con todo derecho) si un vecino se siente amenazado
Key tips for parents
Talk to your children about real risks, not just viral jokes.
Monitor their social networks and comments on TikTok or Instagram.
Reinforces values of respect, responsibility and legal boundaries.
Share this type of news with family members so that they can take special precautions in communities with high youth activity.
In areas such as Miami, Houston or Los Angeles, where many teenagers access social networks unsupervised, this information can prevent legal consequences affecting their academic and employment future.
