The Los Angeles Clippers have parted ways with Chris Paul, one of the franchise’s legends, just weeks after the 40-year-old point guard announced that this was going to be his last NBA season.
Paul made the announcement on Instagram early Wednesday: “Just found out I’m being sent home,” he said in a message accompanied by an ironic victory sign emoji.
Clippers confirm Paul’s departure

The Clippers confirmed the decision to U.S. media through their head of sports operations, Lawrence Frank:
“We are parting ways and Chris will no longer remain with the team.”
“Chris Paul is a Clippers legend and has had a historic career. I want to make one thing very clear: no one is blaming Chris for our underperformance,” he added.
The point guard was playing a secondary role on the team, averaging 2.9 points, 3.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 14.3 minutes on the court.
The Clippers, currently the oldest team in the NBA, have a 5-16 record at the start of the season and are in second-to-last place in the Western Conference.
A legendary career

Chris Paul had signed a $3.6 million contract for the current season, which the Clippers will have to pay unless they negotiate a deal with the player or manage to trade him.
Paul announced on November 22 his intention to retire at the end of this season, his 21st in the NBA.
The point guard played six seasons with the Clippers between 2011 and 2017 before embarking on a journey that took him to the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs before returning this 2025 to Los Angeles.
Chris Paul was rookie of the year in 2006, twelve-time All-Star and winner of two Olympic gold medals.
In 2021 he reached the NBA Finals with the Suns, but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.
