Colombian Christian Gonzalez, cornerback for the New England Patriots, acknowledged that he is still not processing the victory in the American Football Conference (AFC) final that took his team to Super Bowl LX on February 8.

“I don’t think I’ve fully processed it yet. I still think about that big win for the whole team. Everybody helped win. Offense, defense, special teams. It was a lot of fun. It was real ‘playoff’ soccer,” the defensive back said.

The 2026 Super Bowl title will be contested by the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Christian Gonzalez, 23, will become the first player of Colombian origin to appear in a Super Bowl.

Something he was very proud of this Monday through his social media accounts.

The cornerback, who last Sunday, assisted with an interception in the 7-10 win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC finals, is a key member of the Pats’ defensive secondary.

To which he came drafted in the first round of the 2023 Draft.

“Everything was great on that play. It was snowing. At the time, I saw the ball in the air, I was on the outside, I reacted really fast and went for it, it was like I was playing catcher.”

“So I just kind of went to meet him, jumped up and secured it,” he recalled of the play that tied the game and his team’s Super Bowl berth.

After a complicated 2023, in which he fractured his shoulder, and a 2024 in which they did not qualify for the playoffs, this campaign was brilliant for Christian González.

In 14 games he had 69 tackles and 10 passes defended, records that earned him his first Pro Bowl call-up.

“It’s all a result of work. I just want to make the plays that come my way.”

“As a corner or deep defensive back you don’t get a lot of opportunities, but when you get called upon, the team expects you to make the play,” he stressed.

Christian Gonzalez gave credit for his performance to coach Mike Vrabel, who in his first year at the helm of the Pats has guided them to the Lombardi Trophy duel.

“Special thanks to Coach Vrabel and the coaching staff.”

“They put us in the right positions, make the right decisions and prepare us for the game,” he said.

He also declared himself proud about the possibility of getting New England a seventh Super Bowl:

That puts them alone, ahead of the Steelers, as the NFL’s winningest franchise.

I still think about that great team victory

“It’s something we want to make all the fans proud; after all this city is known for winning.”

“So being able to collaborate with that definitely makes me happy,” concluded Christian Gonzalez.
