On September 24, 2025, an armed attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, left two migrants dead, another critically injured, and the attacker dead from a self-inflicted wound.

The incident occurred in the middle of the morning, in a context of increasing violence against immigration facilities in the country, according to USA Today.

This is how the shooting occurred at ICE in Dallas

According to the Dallas Police Department, the emergency began around 6:40 a.m., when a shooter opened fire from the roof of a building near the ICE Field Office, located at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway.

The main target was a detainee transport truck located in the access area known as sallyport.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that three migrants were shot: two died and one is in critical condition.

No ICE agents or other law enforcement officers were injured.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reported that the suspect died at the scene after shooting himself.

Although his identity was not initially revealed, authorities confirmed that ammunition with engraved messages of an “anti-ICE” nature were found at the scene, pointing to an ideological motive behind the shooting.

Reactions from authorities

The shooting generated immediate reactions from local and national leaders.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson called for calm and patience as the investigation proceeds: “This is a frightening time. We must let the police and federal agencies do their job.”

Senator Ted Cruz condemned the violence and called on politicians to tone down the immigration debate: “In America we can disagree, but that doesn’t make your opponents Nazis. This language must stop.”

Vice President JD Vance and Texas Governor Greg Abbott publicly backed ICE and pledged to strengthen security at immigration centers.

Abbott assured that the tragedy “will not stop arrests or deportations.”

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, a survivor of a 2011 bombing, expressed condolences to the families and took the opportunity to point out that the United States faces a “gun violence crisis,” while criticizing what she considered an “inhumane immigration policy.”

The FBI took over the investigation of the case as an act of targeted violence and announced that it will keep all ICE facilities under maximum surveillance.

The Immigrants Killed in ICE Dallas is not an isolated event.

In recent months, ICE facilities in Texas have been targets of violence:

In August 2025, the same Dallas facility was evacuated due to a bomb threat.

A man identified as Bratton Dean Wilkinson, 36, arrived at the building claiming to have an explosive in his backpack.

In July 2025, an armed group attacked the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas with long guns, injuring a local police officer.

More than 10 people were arrested and charged with terrorism and aggravated assault.

Nationally, federal officials have reported a 700% increase in assaults against immigration agents amid the Trump administration’s intensified deportation policy.

Condemnation from Latino organizations

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) condemned the attack in Dallas.

In a statement, its president Roman Palomares said:

Violence is never the answer. We stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and call for a lowering of the temperature of public discourse

Roman Palomares

Founded in Texas nearly a century ago, LULAC stressed that the case should serve as a warning about the risks of political polarization and the normalization of violence against vulnerable communities.

The attack in Dallas revives the debate about security in immigration centers and the growing ideological violence in the United States.

For the Hispanic community, the events are a reminder of the hostile environment faced by migrants in custody and how political tensions directly impact their lives.

Federal authorities have promised to provide more information in the coming days, while families of migrants await answers and justice.
