FIFA was forced to adjust ticket prices for the opening match of the 2025 Club World Cup. Despite the presence of Lionel Messi and other stars, ticket sales for the match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly of Egypt have fallen short of expectations.
Initially, tickets were priced at $349 during the first stage of sales in December 2024. However, as the date approaches, prices have dropped dramatically, with tickets now starting at $55 on Ticketmaster, StubHub and other authorized portals.
Thousands of empty seats
The match will be played on June 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, which seats 65,326 people.
Currently, most sections of the stadium still have hundreds of tickets available, including VIP options in the $200 range for front row seats at this Club World Cup.
This scenario reflects an unexpected challenge for FIFA, which was projecting higher demand considering Messi’s presence and the debut of the new expanded format of the competition.
For Inter Miami, the tournament represents its first major international challenge with Lionel Messi at the helm, accompanied by the likes of Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.
The MLS team will seek to advance in the tournament by facing the multi-African champion Al Ahly of Egypt, in what will be a highly anticipated duel for local and international fans.
Despite the low initial sales, it is expected that with the new more affordable prices, attendance at the stadium will increase in the coming days.
New format, new challenge
This tournament is the first edition of the renewed FIFA Club World Cup, now with 32 teams and organized in 11 cities in the United States.
FIFA is committed to consolidating this tournament as one of the most important at the global level, replacing the now defunct Confederations Cup.
