Jill Zarin, known for her role on The Real Housewives of New York City (RHONY), has been left out of a new television project after becoming embroiled in a major controversy.

The businesswoman and television personality publicly criticized Bad Bunny’s performance during the Super Bowl LX halftime show, triggering a wave of backlash and, ultimately, her firing.

Statements against Bad Bunny that sparked controversy

The conflict began when Zarin posted a video -which he later deleted- in which he described the Puerto Rican singer’s performance as “the worst halftime show in history”. In his comments, he questioned why the artist had not performed more songs in English and pointed out the scarce presence of white people on stage, remarks that many users on social networks considered offensive and out of place.

Criticism quickly went viral. While thousands of fans defended Bad Bunny’s performance as a celebration of Latino culture and diversity, others decried Zarin’s words as insensitive and discriminatory. Public pressure grew quickly.

In the face of the controversy, Blink49 Studios, the production company responsible for the docu-series The Golden Life, made a strong decision: to dispense with Jill Zarin. In a statement published by Entertainment Weekly, the company informed that it would not continue with her participation in the program, underlining its commitment to corporate values and standards.

The move marked an unexpected twist in the run-up to the premiere of the new installment of the project, which will reunite several former RHONY members in Palm Beach, Florida. The production promises to showcase this new stage in the lives of Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon and Sonja Morgan, who will share experiences in the sunny destination.

Public reactions and distancing

The controversy also impacted Zarin’s close environment. The official Instagram account of Zarin Fabrics -a company historically linked to her family- published an image of the businesswoman with a red X on her face, accompanied by a message against racism and discrimination. In addition, the company clarified that Jill Zarin has had no relationship with the brand for several years and reaffirmed its support for diversity and respect.

For her part, Zarin herself expressed in an interview her disappointment that she did not have the opportunity to offer further explanation for her statements. However, her daughter Ally Shapiro took a different stance and openly defended Bad Bunny’s performance, describing it as “the best halftime show in years.”

Sonja Morgan, Zarin’s former partner in RHONY, also distanced herself from the controversy, publicly expressing her love and support for the Latino community.

As The Golden Life prepares for its launch, the absence of Jill Zarin has become one of the most talked-about issues surrounding the production. What promised to be a television reunion full of nostalgia now starts with a significant loss, a direct consequence of a controversy that transcended the screen and rekindled the debate on diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
