Former first lady Michelle Obama assured that the United States “is not ready” for a woman president, reaffirming that she will not seek this position and that “many men” are not comfortable with female leadership.
“As we saw in the last election, sadly, we are not ready. That’s why I’m like: don’t even look at me about competing because you all are lying. They’re not ready for a woman. You’re not. So don’t waste my time,” Obama declared at an event promoting his new book ‘The Look’.

The wife of former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) considered that people in the United States “have a lot of growing up to do” about the idea of having a woman as head of state.
“There are still, sadly, a lot of men who don’t feel they could be led by a woman, and we saw that,” she said in a promotional interview with actress Tracee Ellis Ross in New York whose footage was released this weekend.
“I mean, I think we still have some growing to do in that regard, and we can see how progress can be made and things can be taken away when it comes to taking our power as women,” she added.
Michelle Obama was leading some opinion polls to be the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024, when then-President Joe Biden (2021-2025) was weighing withdrawing from the race.
But the former first lady and her husband supported Kamala Harris, who was the vice president.
At a rally, the former first lady defined the then Republican candidate and now president, Donald Trump, as a “risk,” especially for women, and he later called her “disgusting.”
The also author, who is now promoting ‘The Look’, a book in which she analyzes her stylistic evolution since she was first in the public eye, assured People magazine in October that almost a decade after leaving the White House she is at her best.
In his discussion with Tracee Ellis Ross, Obama opined that he disagrees with the idea that a first lady should be the “archetype of a wife and femininity.”
