The vice president of the United States, JD Vance, considered Thursday that the immigration agent who killed a woman the day before in the city of Minneapolis (Minnesota) “is protected by absolute immunity” and accused the deceased of being an activist “victim of leftist ideology” who tried to run over the operative with his vehicle.

“This is a federal law enforcement officer involved in a federal law enforcement operation. It is a federal matter. That individual is protected by absolute immunity. He was doing his duty,” Vance said at a White House press conference.

JD says ICE agent has “absolute immunity”.

The president’s number two, Donald Trump, charged Minnesota governor and former Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

He accused him of “persecuting” the agent and “making his life miserable for having done the job he was assigned to do”.

He also accused the press of misrepresenting the facts.

“I have never seen a case so misrepresented and so misreported,” he said in line with the Administration’s previous attacks on the media.

“That same ICE agent almost lost his life six months ago, dragged by a car, and received 33 stitches in his leg,” said JD Vance.

“So, do you think maybe he’s a little sensitive to the idea of someone ramming him with a car?” he added.

JD Vance also repeated Trump’s accusations against the deceased, a 37-year-old American identified as Renee Good, whom the president called a “professional agitator.”

GOP members such as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have accused Good of“domestic terrorism” because, according to them, she was going to run over the agents with her car, but Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey denied this version by arguing that the officers killed her unjustifiably.

“We have a case of a woman who steered her car into a police officer and stepped on the accelerator. No one disputes that. I can consider her death a tragedy and, at the same time, acknowledge that it’s a self-inflicted tragedy,” JD Vance said Thursday, even though the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Renee Good died Wednesday after being shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent while maneuvering her car in the middle of a Trump-ordered immigration raid in the Midwestern state.

The incident has elevated the already existing protests against ICE in Minneapolis, where at least eight people were detained Thursday at the start of the second day of demonstrations over the woman’s death, several witnesses confirmed to EFE.

Governor Walz declared an emergency Wednesday and called on his National Guard to prepare to respond to demonstrations, while the city’s public schools have canceled classes for the remainder of the week for safety.
