Mexican journalist Jorge Ramos, host of Univision and one of the most influential Latino communicators in the United States, reacted strongly to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which occurred during a public event in Utah.

Through his social networks, Ramos shared a message full of indignation and regret: “The images are terrible, the activist Charlie Kirk died and this is not the country we imagined. We must denounce violence wherever it comes from and particularly political violence.”

The journalist, who has been openly critical of former President Donald Trump and the U.S. right wing, stressed that the rejection must be unanimous: “We are in a very divided country, but this cannot be accepted regardless of what we think. This type of violence in the United States cannot continue to happen, it must be denounced.”

Donald Trump himself confirmed Kirk’s death at the age of 31 through a message on Truth Social, his digital platform. The former president referred to the activist as a close ally and a reference for conservative youth: “The great Charlie Kirk has passed away. No one understood or had the heart of the youth of the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now he is no longer with us.”

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, an organization that promotes conservatism among young people, was in Orem, Utah, on the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour.”

During the event, set up under a white tent, Kirk was about to engage in dialogue with attendees in his well-known “Prove Me Wrong” debate dynamic when gunshots rang out.

Jorge Ramos dismayed by the incident

A video posted on social networks shows the moment when he apparently received an impact to his head or neck while speaking to the audience. The broadcast of the event was interrupted and, despite the efforts of the emergency services, Kirk did not survive.

The news generated commotion both in the political sphere and in public opinion. Republican leaders expressed their grief and demanded justice, while some Democratic leaders condemned the attack and reiterated the urgency of reducing polarization and political violence in the country.

Civil rights organizations also warned that Kirk’s murder represents a disturbing escalation in a social climate already marked by ideological tensions, protests and violent episodes.

Jorge Ramos’ message resonates in a context where political violence in the United States has been on the rise. The journalist, partner of anchorwoman Chiquinquirá Delgado and author of several books on democracy and migration, insisted that society must categorically reject these acts.

His intervention has been highlighted because, beyond ideological differences, it highlights the need to build a minimum consensus: to protect the life and integrity of those who participate in the public debate, regardless of their political stance.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk exposes the fragility of democratic dialogue in the United States. While his followers remember him as a leader passionate about youthful conservatism, critics and ideological adversaries have also joined the rejection of the attack, reminding that violence can never be a valid tool in the political arena.

As Ramos expressed, the lesson of this tragic event is clear: political violence cannot be normalized and must be condemned without qualification.
