The Venezuelan government denounced this Saturday a “very serious U.S. military aggression” in civilian and military localities in the states of Miranda, Aragua, La Guaira and the capital of the country, Caracas, and ordered the “deployment of the command for the integral defense of the nation”.

“The immediate deployment of the Command for the Integral Defense of the Nation and the Management Bodies for the Integral Defense in all states and municipalities of the country has been ordered,” the government said in a statement read on state television VTV.

Maduro ordered the implementation of the decree declaring a state of “external commotion”, to protect the national territory and to “immediately go to the armed struggle”.

As part of this same decree, he announced the deployment of the military and police.

This constitutes “a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, especially Articles 1 and 2, which enshrine respect for sovereignty, the legal equality of States and the prohibition of the use of force,” added the Government, warning that this “aggression threatens international peace and stability, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean, and puts the lives of millions of people at serious risk”.

In addition, it said it reserves the right to exercise the “legitimate” right of defense to protect its people and territory, citing Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Several detonations were heard early Saturday morning in Caracas, La Guaira and Miranda amid tensions with the United States, which in August deployed warships in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuelan coasts and Caracas denounced threats.

Trump warned in November of the possibility of attacks on Venezuelan territory amid his campaign against Venezuela and the government of Nicolás Maduro, whom he accuses of allegedly leading a drug trafficking network.

Last Friday, the U.S. president announced an attack against a“large facility” as part of his campaign against a drug trafficking network led, according to Washington, by Venezuela, although he did not specify whether the attack took place within Venezuelan territory.

On Monday, Trump indicated that the attack was on a pier, but also did not specify the geographic area of the bombing.
