British singer Harry Styles said in an interview published Wednesday that the death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne made him see his life differently.
During an interview with New Zealand DJ and Apple Music creative director Zane Lowe, the artist said he still found it hard to talk about Payne, who died in October 2024, aged 31, when he fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
“It’s very hard to lose a friend. It’s hard to lose any friend, but harder to lose a friend who is so like you in so many ways,” said Styles, who called Payne someone “with the kindest heart who just wanted to be great.”
In this sense, the British singer said that the death of his former One Direction partner was a moment that marked him strongly and made him wonder what he wanted to do with his life and how to live it.

“I think the best way you can honor friends who pass away is to live your life to the fullest,” Styles continued.
Since One Direction announced their indefinite hiatus in 2016, all members went their separate ways and did not reunite until Payne’s private funeral in November 2024.
Harry Styles made a successful solo debut in 2017, placing his album at number one in the UK charts, and continued his path to stardom with his second album, ‘Fine Line’ (2019), and third, ‘Harry’s House’ (2022), for which he won the Grammy and BRIT Award for Album of the Year.
After a musical ‘impasse’ of nearly three years, Styles will release this Friday, March 6, his fourth studio album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally’, and will present it the same day for the first time in an exclusive concert in Manchester (northwest England) that will be broadcast on Netflix next Sunday.
Styles will also embark on his ‘Together, Together’ world tour this year, reported Agencia EFE, which kicks off in May in Amsterdam (Netherlands) and will include 12 dates at London’s Wembley Stadium, 30 at Madison Square Garden in New York (U.S.), as well as stops in Mexico City and Sao Paulo (Brazil).
