The unusual statement made on Thursday by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, strongly denying having had a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and calling for the gossip about it to stop has achieved exactly the opposite effect by further rekindling speculation about possible ties of U.S. President Donald Trump’s entourage to the late child molester.
“The lies linking me to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein must end today,” the first lady said in a speech at the White House in which she denounced that “numerous images and statements” that she described as “completely false” have been circulating on social networks.
This was her first public statement since media attention last year returned to focus heavily on the case of the financier convicted of prostituting minors surprised the U.S. public and media by coming so unexpectedly, at a time when no publication seemed to have released any exclusives focusing on the ex-model’s ties to the Epstein plot.
According to sources consulted by ABC, the theme of Melania Trump’s speech – which was not revealed beforehand – even took many White House officials by surprise.
All of this prompted many media outlets to begin speculating on Thursday about whether his statements were intended as an early defense against the future release of a bombshell story related to the alleged closeness between Melania Trump, Epstein and her former partner and procurer, Ghislaine Maxwell.
“To be clear: I never had any relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Maxwell,” Melania Trump said Thursday with a serious gesture, who also denied having been “Epstein’s victim” or that the late financier was the one who introduced the now president, Donald Trump, and the future first lady, a theory that has been speculated about in networks and media.
Some media did echo that, on the same day the first lady spoke, a former Brazilian model named Amanda Ungaro launched furious attacks on the X network against her, and suggested that the White House brokered her deportation this year back to her country so that her ex-husband, Paolo Zamolli, the man who introduced Donald and Melania Trump, would gain custody of their son.
There is no evidence that Ungaro’s posts on networks prompted Melania Trump’s statement about Epstein on Thursday, although many media outlets did stress that her message threatened legal action against her and her “pedophile husband.”

Melania Trump closed her message by urging Congress to grant a public hearing to the women who have been Epstein’s victims to try to shed more light on the case, and James Comer, the Republican who chairs the House committee now probing the case said Friday that there is a possibility of such an appearance.
However, on the same day the first lady delivered her address, the pedophile’s victims released a joint statement claiming that President Donald Trump’s wife had acted to “protect those in power.”
The text further accuses it of “shifting the burden to the victims in a politicized context to protect the powerful”.
Thus, Melania Trump’s surprising speech has now placed the spotlight on her and the possibility of allegations surrounding her and Jeffrey Epstein’s figure.
The issue surrounding the documents from the investigation into the late child molester has weighed heavily on the Trump administration since last summer in the face of claims that the Justice Department should release in full the files on the plot, which appears to involve many powerful men.
Justice was finally forced to make public hundreds of thousands of documents – censored to protect victims and to avoid undermining ongoing investigations – but this failed to appease tempers and it is believed that the persistent discontent over the matter – especially intense among the most furious Trumpist base – was a key element in the recent dismissal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, reported Agencia EFE.
