What was supposed to be a night of eternal glory for Paris Saint-Germain after defeating Arsenal has turned into a national nightmare for France.

As the players prepare to parade in front of the Eiffel Tower, the official balance sheet from the authorities casts a chilling shadow over the celebrations: one man dead and two people in critical condition, including a teenager fighting for his life after being stabbed. This is how riots broke out in Paris after the win of PSG on Champions League.

A trail of violence and chaos

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed that the violence was not the work of true fanatics, but of infiltrators who used the celebration as a shield.

The most serious incidents occurred in the heart of the capital:

Death on the highway: A 24-year-old man lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into concrete blocks on the Paris ring road.

Brutal attack: In the prestigious 16th arrondissement, a young man, barely 17 years old, ended up in a coma after being stabbed during a quarrel. His assailants fled under the astonished gaze of neighbors.

Massive hit-and-run: In District X, a driver lost control and crashed into a crowded terrace, leaving one person in very serious condition.

Police under fire: 57 officers injured

The security deployment was massive, but insufficient to curb the fury of groups that even tried to invade the Parc des Princes.

The balance is devastating: 57 policemen wounded and 219 civilians injured throughout the country.

Nunez defended the police action against criticism from the ultra-right, stressing that the officers operated in extreme heat to avoid major disasters, such as the attack on a media library in Orleans.

Festivities under maximum alert

Despite the mourning, Paris continues with the official agenda.

Today, 100,000 fans are expected to gather at the Campo de Marte to watch the champions.

A contingent of 6,000 police will armor the area before the team is received by President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace.
