Actress Brigitte Bardot, who died Sunday at the age of 91 at her property in La Madrague in Saint Tropez, will be buried in the marine cemetery of this town on the French Riviera, municipal sources said Monday.
This rules out what had been Brigitte Bardot’s expressed wish to be buried in the garden of La Madrague next to many of the animals that have been with her in recent years.
The municipal sources, quoted among other media by the ICI Provence radio station, recalled that there is a family tomb in this marine cemetery located in front of the Mediterranean.
The Prefecture (government delegation) stated that it had not received any request for burial at the actress’s home, a necessary step to obtain authorization outside a cemetery.
The date of the funeral is not yet known, beyond a general indication that it will be next week. A meeting between the local authorities of Saint Tropez and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation is scheduled to take place this Monday.
This morning, Wendy Bouchard, a friend of the actress, had recalled on France Info radio station that the former sex symbol of the 1950s and 1960s, who retired from film at the age of less than 40 in 1973 to devote herself to animal protection, had reiterated that she wanted to be buried in the garden of her property next to the cats and dogs already there, reported Agencia EFE.
