For more than two decades, Argentinean actor Sebastián Rulli has established himself as one of the most beloved and recognized faces of Mexican telenovelas. His career includes emblematic titles such as Rubí ( 2004), where he shared credits with Bárbara Mori; Un gancho al corazón ( 2008), a romantic comedy that established him among family audiences; Teresa (2010), alongside Angelique Boyer; Amores verdaderos ( 2012); and Lo que la vida me robó (2013), one of the most successful melodramas of the last decade.
Now, after a time focused on other projects and with less presence in traditional melodramas, Rulli returns with force to the small screen in a new project that promises to capture the attention of viewers.
The actor will star in the telenovela Mi rival, a production by experienced producer Carmen Armendariz for TelevisaUnivision, which guarantees both international projection and high production standards.
The story revolves around a love triangle headed by Sebastián Rulli, Alejandra Barros and Ela Velden, an acting trio that combines experience and freshness. During an interview for Televisa Espectáculos, Rulli revealed some details about his character:
“She is a very interesting character, very mystical. Both of them (Alejandra and Ela) are divine, they look very similar. I think the love triangle will attract a lot of attention”.
The new production led by Sebastián Rulli

Last Monday, Rulli and the rest of the cast met for the first time at Televisa San Angel’s facilities for the initial script reading, a fundamental step before shooting begins. Filming is scheduled to begin in September 2025 in Mexico and the premiere is scheduled for next year on Univision in the United States and Las Estrellas in Mexico.
In addition to Rulli, Barros and Velden, the production will feature a top-notch cast that mixes established and up-and-coming actors. Among the confirmed names are:
Arturo Peniche, known for his long career in classic telenovelas.
Ana Bertha Espín, actress with a great trajectory in both melodramas and comedy.
Martha Julia, remembered for her antagonistic roles.
Marco Treviño, with extensive experience in film and television.
Edward Castillo, Cassandra Iturralde and Diana Haro, representatives of the new generation. Haro, in particular, has gained popularity with her participation in A.MAR: donde el amor teje sus redes.
Sebastián Rulli’s return to traditional melodramas generates great expectation, especially among Hispanic audiences in the United States, where the genre continues to be very popular thanks to Univision.
For fans of this format, Mi rival represents an opportunity to meet again with one of the most emblematic leading men, accompanied by a story that combines passion, intrigue and family drama.
