Shakira breaks records! She gathers 400 thousand people in the Zócalo of Mexico City

The Colombian was surprised by her success.

Shakira bid farewell to her fans in Mexico on Sunday with a free concert in and around the Zócalo, where she also set a new attendance record with more than 400,000 spectators in the capital’s downtown area.

“400,000 people enjoyed Shakira’s great show, from the Plaza de la Constitución (Zócalo) to the Monument to the Revolution,” reported the head of the Mexico City Government, Clara Brugada on her social networks.

This massive concert was also his second public event in the capital’s Zócalo, after a previous presentation in 2007, when he gathered 210,000 spectators.

However, with this new record of 400,000 attendees, “La Loba” surpassed Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, with 300,000 people registered in 2023, and Grupo Firme, which in 2022 attracted 280,000.

“Shakira’s concert was a complete success. 400,000 people gathered in the Zócalo to sing and dance with an artist of international stature, in a night that will remain in the memory”, confirmed the capital’s government, which assured the Colombian: “Mexico will always welcome you with open arms; here you will always have a home in the hearts of the people of the capital”.

The show began minutes after 8:30 p.m., with the artist singing “Las de la intuición”, followed by “Estoy aquí”, with which the Mexicans began to shout, dance and sing.

Afterwards, Shakira paused and asked “How are my people from Mexico?” and assured “this is a dream”.

“Today I have a mixture of emotion, nostalgia and gratitude. Today is our last day here in Mexico, my home. It is a story of love and friendship that I have with Mexico, which does not compare to anything,” he said in front of the thousands who gathered two days ago to get the best place, even camping in the Zócalo square.

Shakira expressed her gratitude for all the emotion and joy that Mexicans have made her feel, and assured that “there is no better reunion than that of a Loba with her Mexican pack”.

Afterwards, she gave the microphone to her assistants, who seconded her with the song “Inevitable” and then sang together her most recent hits “Te felicito”, which she shares with Rauw Alejandro, and “TQG” with her fellow countrywoman Karol G.

Shakira celebrated during her concert, “13 GNP stadiums and now this historic stage”. Her show in the capital’s Zócalo is part of the ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour, which won the Guinness World Record as the most successful Latin tour of all time, with revenues of 421.6 million dollars and 3.3 million tickets sold in 86 concerts, according to Billboard Boxscore.

In Mexico alone, Shakira sold out 13 sold-out dates and 800,000 tickets, according to figures from the promoter Ocesa, an unprecedented achievement for any artist in the world, while being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2026.

At the end, the Colombian waved a Mexican flag, after exclaiming: “Thank you Mexico. Thank you for being my family. See you.

As part of the event, the capital’s government installed 24 screens in nearby areas and set up 12 security, health and support modules for lost persons, with more than 6,500 officials from different agencies in the area.

According to estimates of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco) of the capital, it would leave an economic spillover of 403.6 million pesos (about 22.4 million dollars).

He also predicted hotel occupancy of more than 90% in the city’s main square, reported Agencia EFE, driven by visitors who arrived in the capital for the closing of the Mexican leg of his tour.
